Once upon a time, there was a farmer’s family who lived in a village. In that family, one small boy was there. He had so many pets in his house and he loved to play with them.
One day he went to the forest and caught three beautiful woodlarks. These woodlarks are good at singing. He took these birds to his home and built a huge cage for them. He gives all the facilities to make these birds comfortable. These birds sing from morning till night. All the people love hearing these birds singing. All of them love these birds except two, a fat hen and the cat.
One day these birds started fluttering their wings continuously because of more heat. On seeing this, the boy understood that these birds are not able to tolerate the heat so it is better to move the cage to some shady place. So he took the cage and placed it in the shade of the tree. After this, the birds became happy and started singing again. They also felt more comfortable and started talking with the other birds in the trees.
Under that tree sat a big fat hen with her chicks. This hen got irritated because of those birds singing. This fat hen asked the woodlarks, “would you please stop singing? because my chicks can’t hear what I m saying”. But those woodlarks didn’t give ear to these words of the hen. They started singing again. This angry hen again said our owner is such a fool that he brings you here instead there are so many beautiful birds around here he might have brought some other bird. But these woodlarks never stop their singing. This hen got angry to its peak that these woodlarks are not at all hearing my words.
By that time, one cat crossed that area. The hen called the cat and complained about the woodlarks. The cat told that “ The singing is irritating for me too but what can we do? our owner brought these birds here”. But the hen triggers the cat by saying that, “ These birds dangerous because yesterday it was fluttering continuously inside the cage so that it can come out and eat my chicks, even you have small kittens so we must be very careful”. The cat got scared that her little one is in danger. The fat hen told that “I have a better plan to get rid of these birds”. The cat was eagerly asking, “ what’s the plan?”. The hen told the cat, “It will be the best plan and you alone execute it. Every afternoon our owner opens the cage for the birds to come out and bathe for some time. This would be the right time for us. I signal to you, you come and chase out those birds”. The cat said, “ Wow!! this is a wonderful plan”.
The next day afternoon, the owner boy came and opens the cage. The birds came out and bathe nicely. This fat hen signals the cat by making a ‘coo-coo sound. But the cat slept nicely so he couldn’t hear the hen signaling. The hen was signaling continuously at last the cat got up and secretly walks towards the birds. But unfortunately one of the birds saw the cat coming towards them. The birds told the cat, “ our owner loves us a lot. Do you know where our owner boy goes early in the morning? He goes to the river to catch the fish especially for us and even he goes to the mountain top to catch grasshoppers especially for us. That much he loves us”. Also, the woodlarks told, “One day when we were feeling sick, the owner called the doctor for us and took care of us. That much he loves us. Do you know how much he spent on us?”. So, the woodlarks warned the cat, “ If you kill us, the owner will kill you and cook that fat hen. Then your little ones will become orphans. Is that okay for you?”.
Also, the woodlarks conveyed one important message to the cat, “If that fat hen wants to kill us she might have come here to kill us but instead she triggers you. So that you will kill us and the owner will kill you and then, that fat hen can live happily. See, How cunning is that fat hen!!”. Now the cat understands the situation and apologized to the woodlarks. The cat also thanked the woodlarks, “ you have opened my eye of knowledge to understand the cunning hen”.
