A $320,000 worth Ambergris
True Story 1 - The story of a 14-pound chunk of whale vomit.
Once upon a time, there lived a poor fisherman called Jumrus Thiachot who lived in Thailand. He is 55 years old. One fine day (in 2019) when Jumurus was walking along the beach, he found a yellow lump of something in the sand. He taught that the jelly-like thing must be Ambergris. Without wasting any time, Jumurus took it to his home.
What is Ambergris?
An Ambergris is made in the belly of a sperm whale. Only a tiny amount of it is more than enough to make a perfume that lasts longer. This is also called “Floating Gold”. There is a huge demand for ambergris in the perfume industry.
Jumurus took few slivers of the ambergris he got for testing. Unfortunately, the results were negative. Jumurus was clueless and he stored the ambergris in his shed and went to pursue his daily routine.
Almost a year passed. Jumurus needed to know the truth, so he contacted his local provincial governor. The governor sent an expert to Jumurus’s house to test the ambergris.
Result: The expert confirmed that the substance was 80% Ambergris. He also said that the estimated value of the ambergris would be $320000 USD.
When press people contacted Jumurus, he said, “Now that I know it is real whale vomit, I will sell it.”
